Local Markets
Laguna Markets – third Sunday of each month – local produce including veggies, free range eggs, fruit, herbs, plants, flowers, tubestock, olives, olive oil, preserves, lavender products, hand spun wool / beanies / scarves, jewellery, vintage linen, bric-a-brac, secondhand books, etc.

Wollombi Markets – every long weekend. Good old fashioned country fair - shop ‘til you drop, brica-brac, 2nd hand furniture, local produce, food stalls, pony rides, plant stalls, clothing, children’s rides etc.
Relax
Relax and unwind! Sit back on the verandah and watch the birds, wildlife and cows, or in the chilly months, read a book by the fire. We have various board games and playing cards in the rooms. In the evening, sit by the brassier in our courtyard whilst enjoying a locally produced wine and share good times with friends.

  • Go bushwalking – there’s plenty to see in the Wollombi Valley and the Corrabare State Forest adjoining our farm – or just take a leisurely stroll through our property
  • Take a relaxing walk in the Wollombi Village
  • Explore some truly wonderful places within a short distance from the farm - Aboriginal engravings and National Parks; The Wollemi, Barrington Tops and Big Yengo National Parks are all nearby
  • Stroll through the gardens and enjoy the sculptures and contemporary artworks in the Gate Gallery at Lavender Gate Farm, only 2 kms down the road. Open Fri-Sun 10am-4pm or by appointment.
  • Wander through Hunter Valley Gardens and discover an English formal garden, a Japanese oriental garden, and many others including a wonderful children’s garden full of life sized nursery rhyme characters and music. Around a 25 minute drive from Avoca House.

Wollombi Valley Arts Council - Regular showings of local art are on display in our local Cultural Centre in the centre of the village.

The Gate Gallery - Stroll through the gardens and enjoy the sculptures and contemporary artworks at Lavender Gate Farm, only 2 kms down the road. Open Fri-Sun 10am-4pm or by appointment.
Tennis anyone?
The Wollombi Valley Tennis Club has been in existence for 40 years. The court, set in the picturesque village of Wollombi, offers any day and night tennis for the visitor as well as local residents. Keys and payment are through the Wollombi General Store in the Main Street. Racquets and balls may be hired. Phone 4998 3230.

Fancy a hit of golf whilst in the Hunter? There are 3 international golf courses within 30 minutes of Avoca House - Cypress Lakes, Hunter Valley Golf & Country Club, and The Vintage.
Horse Riding
Go horse riding and enjoy the Hunter Valley on horseback - Hunter Valley Horse Riding and Adventures or Hunter Valley Wine Country Horse Riding are around a 30 minute drive from Avoca House. Perfect for 7 years and under – Hunter Valley Zoo is an interactive zoo for little ones with Australian and exotic fauna. There is also a children's playground in the Wollombi village.

Emma Pogonsoki's Zumba Classes - 10am Thursdays at the Wollombi Community Hall, and 10am Saturdays at Laguna Hall.
Concert Transport
If you are attending a concert in the Hunter Valley, Rover Coaches will pick and drop off at Avoca House. Why worry about parking - enjoy a glass of wine at the concert and leave the driving to someone else!
